Recital Music has developed a large, exciting and eclectic catalogue of Christmas music for choirs in recent years. "Ring Out, Wild Bells. " was awarded 1st Prize. category 1. in Recital Music's 2012 Christmas Carol Competition. The composer writes. 'This setting of the famous poem by Tennyson is full of rhythmic energy. After a short fanfare-like opening sung by a cappella voices, the piano enters and drives the music forward with its syncopated cross rhythms. Throughout the piece, there is a tension created by alternating, and sometimes superimposing, different groupings of the almost constant quavers. The tension is also maintained by the subtly dissonant harmonies which eventually resolve into a thrilling C major climax.
