’Transforming Stress’ was written in 2008 and was written for Francois le Roux and Paul Hanmer after hearing them play improvisations at the Grahamstown Festival in 2007.
It lasts for just under 6 minutes and is in two contrasting sections: the first represents the stress that has crept into our daily lives and the second transforms this stress into something more relaxing. The point of these sections is that they are based on the same thematic material. This implies that, although the stress is still with us, it is the way we deal with it is what counts - helping us to cope with any eventuality that comes our way.
